Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate, Visiting Scientist/Scholar

Location: American Institute for Goat Research, Langston University, Langston, OK

Scope of Work:

The long-term goal of the project is to enhance a web-based goat nutrient requirement calculation system (LINC; Langston Interactive Nutrition Calculations). Meta-analysis will be conducted with data from the literature compiled via participation of undergraduate students and used to develop and evaluate means of predicting feedstuff associative effects in goats. LINC will be programmed with adjustments for both positive and negative associative effects in the supplemental concentrate and total mixed ration calculator tools. LINC will be updated with other recent research findings as well. There will be activities to increase LINC usage, including development of a technical manual and certification program also with student participation. A LINC class curriculum will be developed and video conferences held that focus on utility for teaching, extension, and research. Outreach activities will occur via the Institute's social media and with undergraduate student participation.

The person selected will be responsible for conduct, supervision, and coordination of activities described above. This includes development of initial activity protocols and working with undergraduate students on a variety of activities. The individual will conduct and(or) supervise data compiling and handling, statistical analyses inclusive of meta-analysis and modeling, LINC programming, data interpretation, and preparation of abstracts, peer-review manuscripts, and teaching and extension publications. Moreover, the individual will work cooperatively with permanent and temporary researchers and extension personnel in the American Institute for Goat Research and teaching faculty of the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Qualifications and Experience:

Ph.D. in Animal, Dairy Science, or a related field. Strong background in research with goats/sheep as well as related extension and teaching activities. Specific areas of expertise include ruminant nutrition, physiology, management, system model development, and statistical analyses. Extensive expertise in data compiling and handling, statistical analyses inclusive of meta-analysis and modeling, computer programming, data interpretation, and preparation of abstracts, peer-review manuscripts, and teaching and extension publications. Demonstrated capabilities are necessary in statistical data analysis using SAS, programming skills with Fortran, R, and(or) Perl. Capacity to work cooperatively with others.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Standard fringe benefits of Langston University are included in the package. The project does not cover costs of travel to the Langston University area or initial lodging until a residence is acquired.

Appointment Length: Two years with a potential 1-year extension
